The production also features an all-black British cast. Cherelle Williams plays Dorothy, while Tarik Frimpong plays the Scarecrow. Llewellyn Graham plays the Tin Man, and Jonathan Andre plays the Lion. Both actors belt out their voices. Ultimately, this is a wonderful production of “The Wizard of Oz.”
Tarik Frimpong has a number of impressive dance and theatre credits. He has performed for various recording artists, including Justin Bieber, FKA Twigs, Keala Settle, and Paul Smith. His dance work has also been featured in commercials for Pringles and Samsonite.
Buddy Ebsen
Buddy Ebsen was a talented dancer and star of the musical “Yokel Boy” on Broadway, and he had several other stage and screen roles. By 1939, he had appeared in eight films. He also danced with Judy Garland in the Broadway Melody finale in 1938. Although originally slated to play the Scarecrow, Ebsen declined the part due to his bronchial allergy to aluminum dust.
The Tin Man role is one of the most recognizable characters from “The Wizard of Oz.” However, the role of the Tin Man was not easy to land on for an actor with Ebsen’s talents. He fell ill due to the aluminum makeup on his face and had to be replaced by Jack Haley. However, his career was far from over. He went on to work as an extra in “The Wizard of Oz” and “Four Girls in White.”
Buddy Ebsen’s early years in his early twenties began with dancing. He and his sister Vilma Ebsen formed a vaudeville act together. They also starred in two more Eleanor Powell movies. Ebsen also worked as a waiter and lifeguard. In addition to playing the Tinman, Ebsen was a well-known dancer.
In his later years, Ebsen took up painting. In the early 1990s, he launched a series of lithographs of his Uncle Jed Clampett, which featured the actor’s old hound dog Duke. Ebsen also published a number of books. “Kelly’s Quest” was his best-selling work. His autobiography “The Other Side of Oz” was also published.
