Patti LuPone is perhaps best known for her role as Eva Peron in the musical Evita, a hit Broadway musical created by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The actress was chosen out of 200 women who auditioned for the role. At her audition, she performed two songs from the show, and it was her version of “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” that brought the audience to tears. Harold Prince saw her performance and decided to hire her to play the role.
After graduating from the Julliard School’s drama department in 1972, LuPone began acting on Broadway. In 1973, she made her Broadway debut in Chekhov’s Three Sisters. She also has a long association with the playwright David Mamet, and has appeared in several of his works, including “The Woods” (1977) and “The Anarchist” (2012).
Idina Menzel
Idina Menzel is an American actress and singer who rose to fame after her roles in the musicals “Wicked” and “Frozen.” But her career isn’t over yet. She recently announced that she will play the lead role in a new play off-Broadway, “Skintight,” a comic drama written by Joshua Harmon. The play is about a married woman who loses her husband to a much younger woman. The play is directed by Daniel Aukin.
Menzel has been nominated for two Tony Awards. Her first nomination was for “Rent” and her second was for “Still I Can’t Be Still.” Menzel has recorded six studio albums and one holiday album. Her cast albums have also been successful.
Menzel first gained prominence as Elphaba in Wicked. She then went on to play Maureen Johnson in Rent. She has also starred in Disney movies such as Frozen and A Christmas Carol. In 2016, Menzel released her third studio album, idina, which reached the top 30 on the Billboard 200. In early 2017, Menzel starred in the Lifetime remake of the movie Beaches. She also released three solo albums. In addition to her Broadway career, she has appeared on film, including the A24 movie Uncut Gems.
