Moooi founder arrested on suspicion of murder and child abuse
Moooi founder Marc James Taylor arrested on suspicion of murder and child abuse has been in and out of prison four times since 2000. The oldest of his four prison stints was for three and a half years, with 18 months of time served concurrently with a rape sentence.
Taylor’s case was briefly put on hold last year as the court considered his mental health. His first trial ended in a mistrial two weeks ago, but he will go back to trial next month. His second trial is scheduled for February 15.
Taylor’s case has been referred to as a “horrific” incident. The Lancaster County District Attorney, George Gascon, called it a “torment” and said it was “a horrific crime that will be a long time in coming.” He noted that defendants in this case could face more than 50 years in prison. The prosecution is barred from referring to previous plea deals that dismissed other charges. They are also barred from using any reference to Taylor’s violent criminal history, his previous sexual offender status, or his status as a sexual offender.
The jury selection process for the second trial is still underway. Prosecutors are gauging potential jurors’ truthfulness and psychology.
Prosecutors said Taylor repeatedly raped women and brutalized children. He has been charged with kidnapping, assault, child abuse, and murder. He faces 57 years in prison if found guilty.
