The salaries for players in the IFL are not as high as those in the NFL, but they are not low either. A player in the active roster can expect to earn around $4,500 per week, while a player on the practice squad can expect to make just over $1,500 a week. The season lasts for 10 weeks, so a player on an active roster can expect to make around $45,000 in a full season.
IFL salary scale
The salary range for a player in the IFL varies, but it generally falls between $25,000 and $37,470 per game. In addition to the base salary, IFL players receive bonuses based on performance and postseason play. The league was created in 2008 following the merger of two indoor football leagues: the Intense Football League and the United Indoor Football League. The merger was announced the day before the 2008 National Indoor Bowl, in which the Sioux Falls Storm defeated the Louisiana Swashbucklers to win the title.
Average salary per game played
The average salary per game played in the IFL is between $250 and $500. However, the players in the IFL often receive a lot of benefits that the average player in the NFL does not. Most players in the IFL receive a full-time housing allowance and are compensated with two meals per day.
While the average salary per game played in the IFL is much lower than in the NFL, many players earn six-figure salaries. In the past, players in the USFL were given multi-million dollar contracts. Unlike the IFL, however, the minimum salary for a player in the NFL is less than $700,000. The IFL season lasts for ten weeks, with four games played on the weekends. The inaugural season was aired on NBC and Fox, and had a combined audience of approximately three million viewers.
Hall of Fame criteria
Hall of Fame selection is a multi-step process that involves multiple votes and scrutiny of nominees. It begins with a vote to reduce 120 Modern-Era Player Nominees to 25 Semifinalists, followed by a vote to reduce the list to fifteen Finalists. The selection criteria requires that the nominees receive 80% of the votes from a full Committee.
To be eligible for the Hall of Fame, a player must have made significant contributions to the league. Some of the players in the IFL Hall of Fame have also played for other indoor teams. Chris Dixon, for example, played quarterback for the Everett Hawks in the Northwest Football League and the Orlando Predators in the Arena Football League before he joined the IFL. Another Hall of Fame candidate, Lionell Singleton, played quarterback for the Alabama Vipers in the Arena Football League and for the Milwaukee Mustangs in the AFL. Another player with AFL experience is Myniya Smith, who played for the Utah Blaze before joining the IFL.
Teams that have left the league since 2010
In the past seven years, seven teams have left the IFL. The Omaha Beef left in 2011 and the Texas Revolution in 2014. The latter two left after the IFL refused to renew their contract, and both went on to join the Continental Indoor Football League. The New Mexico Stars left in 2012 and joined the Lone Star Football League. In addition, the owners of the Nebraska Danger and the Omaha Beef suspended operations and joined the Champions Professional Indoor Football League. The Reading Express was also suspended after the 2013 season, but returned for the 2020 season.
In addition to these losses, there are also new additions. In 2010, the league added nine new teams, including an expansion franchise from the Continental Indoor Football League. In addition to expansion teams, two new teams joined from the Southern Indoor Football League. In addition, the Sioux Falls Storm won the United Bowl in 2010, beating the Louisiana Swashbucklers, and the Billings Outlaws won the United Bowl.
Teams that have joined the USFL
The USFL is taking a different approach to player compensation than the IFL did in the 1980s. Back then, teams were supposed to operate on a salary cap. Players like Steve Young, who signed a record-breaking $40 million contract with the Los Angeles Express in 1984, later said that he only received a small fraction of his $40 million salary. In the same year, Herschel Walker signed a three-year, $4.2 million contract with the New Jersey Generals. It included a $1 million signing bonus.
Players in the USFL earn between $45,000 and $75,000 a year depending on their position and the performance of their team. In contrast, NFL players make around $800,000.
